One of my chief concerns about my clients is that they often have no time to reflect, to take stock of themselves their life and their surroundings. Meetings follow meetings. All is noise and urgency.
There are times when you just need to look at things from a different point of view. Some of White Water Group did that last week. After a staggeringly busy week, we challenged our fears of heights and our dislike of being caught in deluges. We donned less than fetching (or water proof) jumpsuits to climb the O2, setting off under one of the darkest clouds and through one of the heaviest showers of this great British summer. Achieving a slippy ascent, we made it to the summit just as the sun came out. Now, it wasn’t Kilimanjaro or the north face of the Eiger but it was our group triumph and we basked in our achievement, the view and the fun we had had together. I could describe the view but at a different time of day with different weather, Wordsworth, viewing London, said it better than I could:
Earth has not anything to show more fair: Dull would he be of soul who could pass by A sight so touching in its majesty: This City now doth, like a garment, wear The beauty of the morning; silent, bare, Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie Open unto the fields, and to the sky; All bright and glittering in the smokeless air. Never did sun more beautifully steep In his first splendour, valley, rock, or hill; Ne’er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep! The river glideth at his own sweet will: Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
Please take the time to stop and delight in your surroundings, wherever they are.
It does great things for your well being.
